As you might already know, the very first Android N developer preview was released back in March 2016 but sadly the LG Nexus 5 did not make the cut this time. However this doesn’t mean that it won’t see the official Android N eventually as Google has a habit of surprising people. The Nexus 4, which has aged pretty well saw various major android builds coming it’s way even when it was left out of the preview program initially with the android marshmallow builds.
LG Nexus 5 being tested for Android N
In a previous leak it was determined that Google has some plans for the Nexus 5 regarding Android N, as the device was listed in the Google Git repository for the Android N preview, the Nexus 5 (hammerhead) was tagged in its code dating from 10th March 2016. This surely doesn’t confirm that android N will be coming to Nexus 5 but it sure point’s us in the right direction.
LG Nexus 5 Android N Ports being worked on by XDA-Developers
It has been found that since the initial android N preview, a thread has already been started to port the Android N developer preview to the Nexus 5. The main purpose is to port Android N builds to Nexus 5 like dev’s did for the Nexus 4 back in Android M (now Marshmallow) release. While few have pointed out switching to custom ROM’s it has been established that the Android N builds aren’t limited to a 64 Bit Architecture as the Motorola Nexus 6 was included in the release. Sadly there hasn’t been any hint about the Nexus 5’s android N development since a month, so stay tuned.
With a Nexus device, you always have options 😉
